New TriQuint MMPAs with Envelope Tracking Capture Design Wins in Leading LTE Smartphones

The versatile, highly integrated modules not only prolong battery life with new envelope tracking technology, but also simplify complex RF design for multi-band smartphones with a new mobile chip interface used by multiple chipset partners

TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc , a leading RF solutions supplier and technology innovator, today announced three new multi-mode, multi-band power amplifier modules (MMPAs) that deliver longer battery life for LTE smartphones while simplifying increasingly complex RF design. The versatile new products, which are already capturing design wins in leading LTE smartphones, feature new envelope tracking technology as well as a new mobile chip interface.

“Building on the success of TriQuint’s highly integrated TRIUMF™ MMPAs, our three newest products add more LTE bands to cover more regional markets, as well as support for power-saving envelope tracking and a versatile new MIPI interface,” said Sean Riley, Vice President of Mobile Products.

Device manufacturers are adopting envelope tracking (ET) in next-generation smartphones to maximize energy efficiency. ET extends battery life by dynamically adjusting the supply voltage to the power amplifier (PA), in contrast to PAs with conventional constant-supply voltage. TriQuint’s new MMPAs also feature a new mobile chip interface — based on an open “MIPI” standard — used by several chipset providers to increase interoperability among vendors and reduce development time and effort.

In addition to designing ever more sophisticated devices, smartphone manufacturers serving the global market must produce several regional variants of each model to operate in carriers’ specific assigned spectrum. This is becoming more challenging as numerous new LTE bands are allocated. The versatile design of TriQuint‘s new MMPAs gives manufacturers a common platform to release new products at a faster pace, while controlling design and manufacturing costs. They support a growing number of popular 3G/4G bands for specific regions as well as quad-band GSM/EDGE. By integrating more functionality into smaller form factors, they simplify PCB routing, reduce BOM count and speed time to market.

LTE: Finland: Broadcom Corporation, Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) have demonstrated LTE Advanced.Category 6.

Broadcom Corporation, Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) have demonstrated LTE Advanced (LTE-A) carrier aggregation Category 6 (Cat 6) data rates of 300 Mbps on a live commercial network of Finnish operator Elisa.

The end-to-end test was completed on Elisa’s commercial LTE network in Finland with Broadcom’s LTE-A Cat 6 technology using inter-band carrier aggregation and NSN’s Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station. The test was performed by aggregating two 20 MHz channels in the 1800 MHz band (LTE Band 3) and the 2600 MHz band (LTE Band 7) to reach speeds of 300 Mbps.

After jointly building LTE networks on 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz, NSN enabled the operator to launch 800 MHz LTE network in January earlier this year.

Broadcom will demonstrate LTE-A Cat 6 data rates on NSN infrastructure at the upcoming Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, February 24-27.

Samsung updates its UNPACKED 5 invitation with 9 clues to think about related to the upcoming Galaxy S5 to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress this Feb 24 in Barcelona, live streaming at 20:00 CET

The 9 clues or topics are Speed, Outdoor, Curiosity, Fun, Social, Style, Privacy, Fitness, and Life, all of them are shown to the fifth power, which could just mean that this is the fifth version of these ideas or just are attached to the Galaxy S5. The first option more likely because Samsung Galaxies are currently coming with those features a long time ago, along with fun and curiosity, but will work with a revamped TouchWiz UI.

MWC 2014: Rumors: LG may unveil the G2 Mini.

On the Bluetooth SIG site an LG-D620 also known as LG G2 Mini has been spotted. The G2 Mini is likely to be unveiled later this month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014.

LG G2 Mini will come with a qHD display of unknown size that will support 540 x 960 pixels resolution. Rumor also has it the smarpthone will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.

MWC 2014: Blackberry to unveil first Foxconn made NEW affordable smartphones.

The news comes from Terry Gou, CEO of Foxconn who said: "We are working with them (BlackBerry) to design a new device, and we will showcase multiple devices at the trade show (MWC) in Barcelona in February,"

Foxconn signed a deal in December with BlackBerry to develop and produce new smartphones over the next five years. BlackBerry will supposedly target the rapidly growing smartphone market in Indonesia and other emerging markets such as Mexico.

The two companies will cooperate going forward, including 'mutual investments and global marketing' calling the deal "a breakthrough in the global technology industry,"

Gou added that BlackBerry offers an 'excellent platform' with its BlackBerry 10 OS, with 'outstanding security features' but lacks strong manufacturing capability.

In addition to focusing on tapping the rapidly growing smartphone market in Indonesia, the two will make new devices for other emerging markets, including Mexico, Hon Hai said in a statement.

Apparently all those smartphones to be unveiled with one code named Jakarta , are budget devices made for emerging markets. No clues yet, if them will also arrive to the USA and Europe.

MWC 2014: Walltik Intelligent Reader creates an Ecosystem of Personalized Interests for Users.

When Walltik launched last year in May, the journey of the intelligence on how users not only consume but also curate content, was a crucial starting point. It started the development of the platform to read other websites in order to get things done. Its bet came from the users' help and technology in order to help data intelligence and human preferences play at the same time.

The technology that Walltik delivers is personalization (thus, the automatic curation) of interests and content. With so much data flooding the Internet, the user needs help from this tool. Once the user registers, it automatically suggests their interests. Indeed, it may not be that interesting but, if you register from scratch (that means not through the social networks accounts), it delivers accurate interests ("And they got me in one!" a user told the company). However, if that doesn't satisfy the user, it has an interest searcher, which displays suggestions. That's the intelligence that Walltik provides.

When you enter into the world of Walltik, it is quite interesting how you can add URLs. There are differences from current readers or platforms like Delicious, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, and similar ones. It has the freedom of adding URL'S with all the content that the author allows; it even lets you manipulate the content received. But, since the success of a Walltik feature that identifies the author (it has reached a success rate of approximately 80%-90%), it can very easily handle the authorship of the content.

However, we have checked Walltik for that matter and what they want is that the user keeps and shares content. If manipulated, it creates more debate to the issue dealt, as well as providing a viral story for the original content (the source of the URL sets foot once the URL is crawled and published). In the creation of content coming from a Walltik user, there are no restrictions except some quality and limitation on the size of the image and/or video but it enables the user to build in a single post a gallery of media, mixing video and images together.

With regards to the intelligence of the reading of content, Walltik has enabled a suggestions button for interests and profiles/users. In this area, the relevance the user gets is quite impressive when seeking to have the right content that really matters to him/her. The other aspect is when recommending users and profiles of authors. It guides the user to know who's relevant and who's not, which enables him/her to curate those that are worth following. Furthermore, when you have access to their content, you can mark the particular post that really interests you instead of following the whole profile.

With all of this intelligence, Walltik has a third key feature: search. "Even though it still needs a lot of work in making the suggesting and searching features much more interesting and scalable," as Marc Costafreda (CEO of Walltik) points out, "it does help to find interesting content."

As for mobile, Walltik is currently working in its Android application. It will be available in beta mode at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which is going to be held at the end of February. Walltik plans to launch it in March. Marc Costafreda adds, "It will bring Walltik to a new and more interesting area. It will not only be an intelligent reader but also an intelligent platform with an integrated chat platform."
